Citrus Saffron Cocktails

My mother always said baking is a science and cooking is an art.

I think cocktail making falls into the art category - there is so much room for switching an ingredient up or trying something completely new.

It’s pretty easy to make a good cocktail - just use ingredients you enjoy. Liquor of choice, citrus of choice, club soda or other bubble of choice, ice - always a safe and delicious bet.

Want to bring a basic cocktail up a step? Add an extra - a spoon of honey, scoop of jam, slice of jalapeno, muddled herbs, or as I did last night - saffron.

Ingredients for my cocktail - use as a recipe or simply inspiration

  • Tequila

  • Lemon

  • Saffron Threads

  • Ice

  • Club Soda

  • Sprig of mint

Directions -

  • In a mortar and pestle grind a pinch of saffron threads

  • Add a few drops of hot water and let sit for at least 5 minutes

  • Squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into mortar. Add honey. Mix.

  • Pour desired amount of tequila into cocktail glass over a couple ice cubes.

  • Add saffron and lemon mixture

  • Top with club soda and a sprig of mint.

Admire the gorgeous orange color while you sip.
